LZL's guiding philosophy of modern luxury meets urban function creates a base from which to explore a hybrid of inspiration for Collection 003. Rei Kawakubo's artful re-appropriation of inanimate items has informed the unconventionally shaped pyramid bag, while the collection's cylinder bag is inspired by an untraditional yet highly functional incense-burner by Japanese brand Kumba. Further inspiration has been drawn from artist Joe Cruz, famous for his bold use of vivid hues and abstract collages, and the photography of Simon Davidson, whose use of coloured smoke and cars works to create surreal urban environments.
The variety of art mediums that have inspired 003 are perhaps most evident in the collection's look book. Set against a raw, contemporary cityscape, imbued with an almost apocalyptic grittiness where colour is rich and texture is man-made - the LZL aesthetic is fully realised. The collection is guided by a rich palette of contrasting hues - primary red and blue pieces are softened with dreamy pastel offerings and the classic minimalism of black. Each piece designed with form and function closely in mind. Elegant gold hardware adds a polished luxury to each piece in the form of clasps, zips, and most notably in the iconic tubular handles.
By looking at modern fashion accessories through the prismatic lens of art, LZL 003 defies trends, instead creating a new breed of accessories - one where intelligent design and timeless construction allows the wearer the ultimate luxury of true self-expression.
